You’re Doing Better Than You Think – Andy Gamble

What if the story we have been telling ourselves about our own spiritual lives is incomplete? This message invites us to step back and consider that the way we measure our own faithfulness may be missing something crucial. As we move into a new season, it is easy to take stock of every unanswered prayer, every habit we have not yet broken, every place we expected to be by now and are not. But what if discouragement has been handing us a report that leaves out the most important evidence? Drawing from Jesus’ words to the church in Revelation 3, we are reminded of a powerful truth: the people saw their limitation, but Jesus saw their faithfulness. They saw little strength, but he saw that they had kept his word. This is not flattery or empty positivity. It is the honest, clear-eyed perspective of the one who says ‘I know your deeds’ and means every word of it. He knows the prayers nobody heard, the forgiveness that cost us something, the Sunday we showed up while carrying a private burden. God is not forgetful. He has not missed a single faithful step. And perhaps the most freeing realisation we can carry into this season is this: we have been measuring ourselves only by outcomes, while God has also been looking at our obedience. We are not who we used to be. Grace has been working, and we are doing better than we think.
